Park Middle School

The renovation of Park Middle School centered on improving Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) and enhancing energy efficiency to create a healthier, more comfortable environment for students and staff. The project included a variety of upgrades aimed at improving the building’s functionality while addressing key IAQ concerns. Additionally, a cafeteria addition was incorporated to better serve students and enhance the dining experience.

To support better air quality, new rooftop mechanical spaces were added to house advanced HVAC systems. These improvements enhance temperature regulation, airflow control, and overall ventilation. Along with mechanical upgrades, the entire building received refreshed finishes, including new ceilings, paint, and flooring, all selected to promote a healthier indoor environment.

The project also included replacing all windows to increase natural light and help regulate indoor temperatures, improving both energy efficiency and the building’s visual appeal.

Another major component of the renovation was the reconfiguration of classrooms to accommodate three new early childhood classrooms. These spaces were thoughtfully designed to support younger students while also incorporating elements that enhance air quality and the overall learning experience. New teacher planning areas were also introduced to encourage collaboration and create a more productive workspace for educators.

With these strategic improvements, the Park Middle School renovation modernized the facility while addressing IAQ and energy efficiency concerns, ultimately fostering a healthier and more sustainable learning environment. Due to the efforts of our team including our engineering partner, Engineering Technologies, Inc. (ETI), the Park Middle School project received the 2023 Healthy Schools "Best in Class" award for Energy Efficiency.

I enjoyed working with SHA on the Canopy Street Project.  It was a very complex project which required both large scale design thought as well as a focus on small details. Their professionalism impressed me as well as all of the other clients in the project from restaurants, to hotel operations through condo buyers, SHA continued to move the project forward and solve problems with all in mind.  As a licensed architect myself I really appreciated their willingness to partner with me and listen to my design ideas while improving the direction time and time again. Quite simply, Canopy Street would not have been nearly as successful without SHA’s talented staff.
