UNL Glenn Korff School of Music

Sinclair Hille Architects, In association with BNIM, were selected as the architect for the new University of Nebraska - Lincoln (UNL) Glenn Korff School of Music Building, a state-of-the-art facility which will be a mix of old and new construction. A premiere creative center for music and dance will provide collaborative spaces for performing arts education.

The design is focused on enhancing human health and wellness while also addressing technical requirements for the school of music such as sound isolation, optimum hearing quality and safety, room size and volume, accessibility, and HVAC systems with humidification for instrument preservation.
A revitalization for the southwest corner of UNL’s City Campus will span across the two parking lots west of the current Westbrook Music building at the corner of 10th and Q streets in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Renovations will begin in the southwest wing of the current Westbrook building connecting to approximately 75,000 square feet of new construction. Some of the new features include a 300-seat recital hall, rehearsal halls, a state of the art digital recording studio and lounge spaces for study and student gathering.

The performance hall will utilize physical and electronic adjustable acoustics and will leverage performance technology to make the room as flexible and adaptable as possible. Additional green space attached to the arts quad will connect the Architecture Hall, Sheldon Museum, Woods Art Building, Kimball Hall, and the Glenn Korff School of Music providing opportunities to host outdoor music and dance events.

The new facility will be a campus destination for high-quality arts education, scholarships, creativity, and performance.

The project is scheduled for completion in summer 2025.

I enjoyed working with SHA on the Canopy Street Project.  It was a very complex project which required both large scale design thought as well as a focus on small details. Their professionalism impressed me as well as all of the other clients in the project from restaurants, to hotel operations through condo buyers, SHA continued to move the project forward and solve problems with all in mind.  As a licensed architect myself I really appreciated their willingness to partner with me and listen to my design ideas while improving the direction time and time again. Quite simply, Canopy Street would not have been nearly as successful without SHA’s talented staff.
