Borland Center for Music and Theatre

Inspiring the faculty and students of Concordia University, the renovation and addition of the Concordia Music Center brings light to the quad and provides new resources for the nationally accredited Department of Music. The 15,000 square foot addition with tall, linear windows and modern precast panels is a $17.5 million project with state-of-the-art technology and adjustable acoustics to enhance the musical experience.

Designed in association with HDR, the renovation and addition contains a performance hall, choir and orchestra rehearsal rooms, 22 practice rooms,13 teaching studios, a recording studio, and space dedicated to music therapy. Additionally, a Black Box theater provides a first-class experience for performances. Flexible spaces allow new programs to be offered by the University.

Sinclair Hille Architects has a longstanding relationship with Concordia University and has enjoyed working alongside their leadership to enrich learning environments on their campus. In 2017 we also had the pleasure of designing the Dunklau Center located just southeast of the music building. For more information about the Dunklau Center, please visit our projects page.

This project was awarded a 2024 AIA NEBRASKA Excellence in Design Architecture Merit Award.

The Concordia University Team has always worked through the design process with Sinclair Hille’s leadership and come away feeling like our project priorities were understood. Setting overall project goals in the initial design meeting with Sinclair Hille has proven to be a key to our success.
