Sinclair Hille Architects Revitalizes Lincoln Landmark: Union Bank Place Set to Open on August 28
Sinclair Hille Architects is excited for the imminent opening of Union Bank Place, a redesigned space located at 13th and "O" streets in Lincoln, Nebraska. The culmination of a collaborative effort with Union Bank and Trust, Engineering Technologies Inc. (ETI), Brester Construction, and RO Youker, this project pays homage to the past while embracing the future.
In a recent interview with the Lincoln Journal Star (LJS) at the Union Bank Place, the team highlighted the key objectives that guided the redevelopment process. The overarching principle was to "do no harm" and preserve the original architecture, a commitment that set the foundation for a project that seamlessly blends history with innovation.
Honoring the original intent of the renowned architect IM Pei, the space has been designed as a public area that encourages community access. The emphasis was on creating a sense of community and warmth, reflective of the local Nebraska spirit. The Union Bank Place officially opens its doors to the public on Monday, August 28.
Aesthetic considerations played a crucial role in the project's success. The architects skillfully integrated new elements with the original designs, employing locally sourced wood to introduce a soft contrast to the hard and linear aspects of the existing structure. The end finish of the wood, similar in color to the concrete, contributes to a welcoming atmosphere, making the space more inviting for the community.
One notable feature is the incorporation of the original tree, accompanied by additional live plants and strategic lighting, enhancing the ambiance during both day and night. The lighting, carefully designed, invites during the day and glows in Union Bank blue at night, creating a dynamic and engaging environment.
A secondary client, Stories, played a significant role in shaping the final outcome. The collaboration with Stories was exceptional, seamlessly integrating their brand and finishes within the overall design, adding another layer of depth and meaning to the space.
"At Sinclair Hille, we prioritize listening to our clients and being true partners in their space," remarked the architects. "We believe we have achieved that with Union Bank Place. Integrating the client's vision with our expertise has resulted in an impactful space for the future. We are honored to be a part of reviving an iconic piece of history and making it fabulous."
Sinclair Hille Architects expresses gratitude to their amazing partners, Engineering Technologies Inc. (ETI), Brester Construction, and RO Youker, for their invaluable contributions to the success of the Union Bank Place project. The Lincoln Journal Star article, covering the in-depth insights into this remarkable transformation, is set to be published in Sunday's paper. Stay tuned to discover more about this architectural gem that beautifully marries the past with the present, opening its doors to the public on August 28.
